Chicago's North Shore includes a string of vibrant communities nestled along or near Lake Michigan, stretching from Evanston to Lake Bluff.
Find It All, Big or Small
The North Shore has a lot of housing options. There is everything from condos in neighborhoods to mansions along the lakefront. There are few cookie-cutter subdivisions on the North Shore. Homes are available in a variety of styles, sizes, and ages within most neighborhoods. There are beaches, fantastic parks and water activities like sailing are available up and down the North Shore.
Travel to and From the City With Ease
The North Shore suburbs have stops on Metra's Union Pacific North Line and the Milwaukee District North Line into downtown Chicago. Evanston and Wilmette have access to the CTA's Purple Line trains to the Loop. The Pace Bus system also serves most of the North Shore communities. Also, the Edens Expressway can be reached easily from almost every North Shore community. Depending on where you live and whether you drive or take public transportation, travel times to downtown Chicago can be a very reasonable 20 to 60 minutes.
Education in the North Shore
North Shore schools are some of the best in the nation. Both Public and Private are excellent. Public schools like New Trier High School, where the average instructional spending per student in 2015 was $13,829, almost twice the state average of $7,419, according to the annual Illinois report card. The North Shore is also home to excellent universities and colleges, such as Northwestern University and Lake Forest College, which also provide opportunities for continuing education.
